State House Website Hacked

Several government websites, including State House and the Ministry of Interior, experienced a major cybersecurity incident this morning, leaving them inaccessible.

The attackers altered content on the sites, posting unauthorized messages, including controversial political statements.

Other ministries impacted include Health, Education, Energy, Labour, and Water, disrupting access to online government services.

Some of the messaged displayed on the hacked pages were "Access denied by PCP" and "We will rise again."

At the time of publication, the government not issued a statement to address the breach.

This is not he first time that key government offices have been targeted by hackers.

In July 2023, key government service platforms like eCitizen were inaccessible following a hacking incident by Anonymous Sudan, preventing Kenyans from accessing close to Ksh5,000 government services.

Mobile-money banking services by M-Pesa were also unavailable during the cybersecurity attack.

At the time, the group claimed that the offices and institutions in the country were attacked because of the the alleged meddling in Sudan affairs by the Kenyan government.

"Kenya has been attempting to meddle in Sudanese affairs and released statements doubting the sovereignty of our government," the group wrote in a statement after the attack.

On his part, the then Minister of ICT Eliud Owalo confirmed the hacking incident but indicated that no personal data was stolen during the incident.

"There is no cause for alarm; we have adequate capacity to address issues of cyber insecurity. I don't want to say we are perfect because we should also be honest, we are enhancing our level of capacity within government to be able to mitigate against cyber insecurity," he stated then.
