December comes with many deals as retailers and major shopping outlets offer discounts ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities. For many families, this period is usually the perfect time to shop for household items, given the discounts offered.

From electronics to food items, shoppers can maximize the holiday budget or purchase household items that they have been saving for during the year.

Here are some of the deals and discounts that have been announced by shopping outlets across the country.

Food & Household Items

Naivas Supermarket

Naivas has rolled out discounts of up to 60% on selected household items and electronics.

Items on offer include everyday essentials such as lotions, tissue paper, cooking utensils, and select electronics. The offers by the retailer rotate depending on the week.

To get the best value, shoppers are advised to monitor Naivas’ verified social media pages, where daily deals are posted. Walking in blind may mean missing the biggest bargains.

Carrefour Kenya

Carrefour is also running festive promotions across its stores and online platforms.

Similar to Naivas, the retailer has discounts on household items and electronics, with markdowns ranging between 20% and 40%, particularly on items like cookers and fridges.

As with most festive promotions, the offers are time-specific. Some deals last only a few days, while others are limited by stock availability. Monitoring Carrefour’s official announcements remains the safest way to shop strategically.

Chandarana Foodplus

Chandarana continues its tradition of weekly discounts, which remain relevant even during the festive season.

Customers can find reduced prices on food staples like rice, chicken, and detergents, with offers refreshed every week.

Clothing Deals

Think Twice

Think Twice has been running discounts of up to 70% on purchases above Ksh5,000, making it attractive for families shopping in bulk during the festivities.

There are occasional kids’ clothing deals, where items can sell for as low as Ksh75. With multiple branches across Nairobi, including Ruiru, Thindigua, Valley Arcade, Runda, Karen, and Lang’ata.

For parents buying festive outfits for growing children, this could be an option.

LC Waikiki

Meanwhile, LC Waikiki is offering up to 30% off clothing in select branches, including Rupa’s Mall, Eldoret, and Kisumu United Mall.

The promotion runs until 23 December, making it suitable for shoppers who prefer new clothes at moderately discounted prices.

Electronics & Home Appliances

LG Kenya

LG has announced festive discounts of up to 55% on selected electronics. The appliances include TV, fridge, and other home appliances such water kettle.

Hotpoint Appliances

Hotpoint is offering markdowns of 15% to 30% on select kitchen and home appliances, including electric cookers and blenders.

Online Shopping Deals

Online shopping platforms such as Jumia and Kilimall are also offering discounted deals for household and personal items such as bags, beddings, electronics, and phones. The deals offered range between 20% and 50%.

Caution of Discounts and Deals

As festive discounts increase across the region, the COMESA Competition Commission recently warned consumers to be careful during promotional periods.

The advisory cautioned that some traders may inflate prices before applying “discounts”, creating the illusion of savings. Others may push low-quality or slow-moving stock under the guise of festive offers.

How to Protect Yourself During Festive Sales

  • Compare prices before buying — check what the item costs a few weeks earlier
  • Buy what you planned for, not what the discount tempts you into
  • Verify official pages to avoid fake promotions and scams
  • Ask about warranties, especially for electronics
  • Avoid impulse debt — discounts are only savings if you didn’t borrow to buy

Festive discounts can genuinely lower your cost of living — but only if you approach them intentionally.

Focus on essentials, stick to a budget, and remember: money saved quietly on groceries, clothes, and appliances often matters more than flashy deals that strain January finances.

This season, the smartest spender isn’t the one who buys the most — it’s the one who enters January without regrets.
