KNEC Publishes 70 Courses Scrapped From TVETs; Here is the Full List

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that plans to scrap 70 courses from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum are already underway, with the final group of candidates set to be registered in November 2025.

In a letter dated May 5 and signed by KNEC CEO David Njegere, the council stated that the phased-out modular courses will be gradually discontinued between November 2025 and November 2027. No new candidates will be registered for these courses moving forward.

The affected programmes fall under technical and business fields and include craft certificates and diplomas such as Mechanical Engineering.

"Institutions were expected to migrate to the new modular courses within five years of the expiry of the old courses. KNEC has been offering candidates with referrals in the phased-out courses opportunities to register and sit for the affected papers. However, some institutions have often used this as a loophole to register fresh candidates in the expired courses," the letter addressed to TVET county and sub-county directors read in part.

KNEC further noted, "KNEC wishes to notify the institutions still offering the expired courses that examinations for the phased-out courses will be offered for the last time in November 2025."
