How to Buy Tokens Using New Kenya Power App

Kenya Power has launched a revamped MyPower app, which can now be used to purchase tokens and monitor the electricity consumption of a household.

During the launch on Monday, October 6,  Kenya Power stated that the revamped app also allows for users of post-paid meters to pay electricity bills, self-read their postpaid meters, lodge billing complaints, and access scheduled power interruptions.

"The Company’s MyPower App has been redesigned with a modern interface, making it more user-friendly with additional features such as managing multiple accounts (for landlords), monitoring monthly token use, as well as a direct chat support via the WhatsApp Channel,” read the statement in part.

The new app can be downloaded on the Google Play Store and on IOS App Store.

How to Buy Tokens Using Revamped MyPower App

1. Once the app has been downloaded, a user will be required to register an account. The details required include ID number, phone number, and email address.
2. Upon registration, one will be required to set a password.
3. Afterwards, users can choose the selected service they want, i.e, Buy Tokens or Pay Bills.
4. Pick the Buy Tokens option, enter the account number, and the amount you want to spend. Afterwards, a prompt will be sent to your phone asking for your pin.
5. Notably, one can also set a house account as a favourite for easy access.
6. Once purchased, an SMS will be sent to the phone. Additionally, the token will be displayed on the app. One can also download and share the receipt.

Unlike the previous app, all backdated tokens purchased since July 2025 will be accessible on the app.

“Alongside the revamped MyPower App and USSD *977#, the Company has also unveiled an AI Chatbot dubbed Nuru that will respond to customers’ queries on the Company’s website and Facebook Page KenyaPowerCare, as well as allow them to report incidents such as power outages and chat with a customer care representative,” read the statement in part.

How to Monitor Electricity Use Using Revamped MyPower App

The revamped app also comes with a ‘My Bill’, which can be used to monitor electricity consumption.

For instance, the new app will show you how much was used to purchase tokens each month and the number of tokens consumed since July 2025.

“To enhance accessibility across Kenya’s diverse linguistic landscape, the Company has added a Kiswahili menu to its USSD *977# to enable millions of customers to navigate the services at their convenience,” Kenya Power added.

“Through the USSD *977#, customers can also access their digital receipts for all payments to the Company. The revamped USSD also allows customers to give unique names to their accounts for easy reference.”
