Have you misplaced your KRA PIN certificate or forgotten the email address you used to register for your KRA PIN?
There are various reasons why a KRA email address should be changed. Perhaps the email address you used to register was compromised, or you accidentally put the wrong email, or the email address you used belongs to a company where you no longer work.
Whatever your reasons, you won't be plagued with questions such as, "How can I get my KRA email address after losing it?" anymore because this article will give you all the possible ways you can do that.
The ‘KRA email address’ is simply a personal email address one uses to register for the KRA PIN for the first time via the iTax Portal.
It can either be Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook or any of the several mail clients in the market.
Typically, most new taxpayers from the late 2000s onwards would register for an iTax at about 18 years of age when they completed their secondary school education.
All existing taxpayers after the formal launch of iTax in 2014 needed to create iTax accounts which needed a unique email address.
It thus comes as no surprise that the emails used by either the 18-year-old or the older taxpayers over time were either forgotten, abandoned or login credentials forgotten.
It may be difficult to gain access to your KRA iTax Web Portal account if you do not have a KRA email address.
The email addresses in the KRA iTax Portal serve three important objectives, according to the iTax Portal. They include:
The default function of all email addresses used on the KRA iTax Portal is to provide the KRA PIN Certificate document and the iTax First Time Login Password. When you register for a KRA PIN, your password and a copy of your KRA PIN Certificate will be sent to your KRA Email Address. In this case, the KRA Domestic Taxes Department (DTD) would require you to sign in with your email address in order to have access to these two critical parts
Email Addresses are also regularly used to change iTax Passwords. This process is usually referred to as "Reset iTax Password." If you've forgotten your KRA iTax password, you'll need to know the email address you used to set your KRA PIN. This is due to the fact that your email address will be used to generate the new password.
Email Addresses are also beneficial for receiving KRA OTP “One-Time Password” Codes. The KRA OTP, a basic four-digit code, is used by iTax Portal to confirm a taxpayer's email address. These Codes are frequently required while updating an existing email address in your KRA iTax Account or registering for a KRA PIN.
Step 1: As the initial step in this process, navigate to the KRA iTax Portal
Step 2: Enter your KRA PIN number.
In this step, you need to enter your 11-digit KRA PIN number. After entering your KRA PIN Number, click the "Continue" button to proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Input your KRA iTax password and solve the mathematical problem (Security Stamp) then click "Login" to go to the next step.
Step 4: Once you have successfully logged into your KRA iTax Account, your iTax iPage Dashboard will be displayed.
Step 5: Click on the Registration tab, and select “amend PIN details” from the drop-down menu. This will take you to the “e-Amendment of Registration” page, where you should select the Online Form mode of amendment. Other fields, such as Applicant Type, Taxpayer PIN, and Taxpayer Name, are pre-selected by the system. Click the "Next" button to go to the next step.
Step 6: e-Amendment Form for Individual
Since you are upgrading the KRA Email Address associated with the iTax Account navigate to the Basic Information Section A. You should select PIN to access the Section that has to be modified. The Basic Information checkbox is then selected, followed by the "Next" button.
Step 7: In the Basic Information section, go to Principal Contact Details, where KRA Email Address is listed in the Main Email Address field. Enter your new email address to replace the one that is currently shown there.
Step 8: Enter the KRA OTP Code that was sent to your new email address to validate the new KRA Email Address on iTax Portal.
Remember that the OTP is only valid for 15 minutes before expiring.
Step 9: Submit the Modification Form. To submit the Amendment Form, click on the "Submit" button. A popup will appear asking you to confirm that you have added a new email address to the iTax Portal that will be associated with your iTax Account.
Step 10: In the final step, download the updated KRA pin certificate.
KRA will also send you an email alerting you of the approval of a registration update.
You can also send an email to KRA customer service to get the changes implemented.
Step 1: To begin, take a colour photograph of your original ID card and scan it (back and front).
Step 2: Send an email to email@example.com stating that you have forgotten your KRA email address. Remember to specify the new email email address.
Step 3: Wait a few hours for KRA to answer.

Your email will be activated in a matter of minutes.
If you need to change your email address and none of the options above works for you, you could consider visiting KRA headquarters on Times Tower in Nairobi or at a KRA office near you.
