Olympia: Little-Known Company That Has Made Ndindi Ksh27 Million in 2 Hours

A little-known company on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday morning became one of the market’s most closely watched stocks after news emerged that Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro had accumulated a 9.76% stake in Olympia Capital Holdings Plc (NSE: OCH).

The announcement has been followed by a sharp move in the share price. OCH rose from Ksh7.22 to Ksh14.10 by 11:20 a.m (the time of publishing this report), approximately two hours after the market opened.

That increase represents a gain of Ksh6.88 per share, or about 95%. Applied to Nyoro’s reported holding of 3,982,253 shares, it implies an increase of approximately Ksh27.4 million in the market value of his stake over that interval.

This is an unrealised mark-to-market gain, not a confirmed profit from shares sold. In a thinly traded stock, the quoted price may also differ from the price at which a large position could actually be sold.

Ndindi Plans to Use Warren Buffet’s Strategy

The Business Daily reported that the People’s Party Leader acquired his holding through Limpopo Capital Limited and intends to increase it to 25%. That stake would allow him to formally declare an intention to take over the company, subject to the applicable rules.

He was also quoted sharing that he intends to revamp Olympia into an investment vehicle modelled on Berkshire Hathaway: a company that owns businesses outright and holds stakes in other companies, with the aim of generating durable cash flows and investment returns.

The proposal is ambitious, but it is not yet a completed restructuring. Nyoro has also acknowledged that low liquidity in OCH shares makes it difficult to accumulate a larger stake, and has indicated he may exit at a profit if the plan proves unworkable.

What Does Olympia Capital Do

Olympia is not a conventional investment fund today. It is a diversified holding company with operating businesses and property interests across Kenya and Southern Africa.

Its portfolio includes:

  • Dunlex Adhesives, a Kenyan manufacturer of adhesives used in construction and other applications.
  • Avon Business and Industrial Park, a commercial and industrial property business in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, in which Olympia has a 45.97% interest.
  • Botswana manufacturing operations, including vinyl floor tiles, aluminium products and industrial and household cleaning chemicals.
  • Logistics and regional services, supporting trade and operations in Southern Africa.
  • Investment property and marketable securities, which provide additional sources of potential value and income.

The investment case therefore rests on more than the share price. Olympia has operating assets, property and a regional footprint. Whether those assets can generate stronger returns is central to assessing the company’s long-term prospects.

Olympia Capital’s Financials

Olympia’s FY2026 integrated report, for the year ended December 2025,  presents a mixed picture.

Revenue declined from Ksh457.2 million to Ksh428.8 million, while profit after tax fell from Ksh17.6 million to Ksh10.45 million. The company has assets valued at Ksh1.9 billion.

Olympia has about 40 million shares in issue at the end of the 2026 financial year. The value attributable to shareholders stood at Ksh1.113bn. This brings the book value per share to Ksh27.82, which might be an indicator of the value Ndindi is pursuing.

A low share price relative to book value, however, does not automatically make Olympia a bargain. The value of its assets, the cash it generates, the cost of running the business and the company’s ability to turn its investments into sustainable profits is the bigger factor.

Management says it has spent recent years restructuring its subsidiaries and addressing manufacturing costs. It has also indicated that improvements in supplier arrangements and supply-chain consistency could support renewed expansion.

Those changes could matter if they translate into higher margins, stronger cash generation and better returns on capital. Until the results demonstrate that improvement, however, a turnaround remains a possibility rather than an established outcome.

Investor Response to Ndindi Nyoro Share

Olympia owns businesses and property that may be worth more than the market currently recognises. Investors pursuing this thesis would need to examine the quality, valuation and saleability of those assets, as well as liabilities and the interests of minority shareholders in subsidiaries.

There is also the capital-allocation argument: a larger shareholder like Nyoro could push Olympia towards a more focused investment strategy, potentially acquiring businesses or listed shares that produce more consistent cash flow and dividends.

A Berkshire Hathaway-style model requires disciplined acquisition prices, sound governance, access to capital and the ability to allocate retained earnings effectively. Changing a company’s stated strategy may not automatically create those capabilities.

Low trading volumes can make it difficult for investors to enter or exit positions at their preferred prices. A sharp price rise after a prominent shareholder announcement may reflect speculation about future events rather than a comparable improvement in the company’s current earnings.

Wrapping Up

The share-price surge shows how quickly attention can turn to an overlooked company when a prominent investor signals a plan for change. Whether that attention develops into sustainable shareholder value will depend on what Olympia earns, how effectively it deploys capital and whether the proposed strategy is ultimately implemented.
