Safaricom’s B-Live: How New Unlimited, Time-Based Data Bundles Work

Safaricom has rolled out a new data product called the B-Live (worry-free bundles) that will see users shift from the normal MB and GB-based bundles to time-based bundles.

This new model, rolled on on Wednesday, August 20, mirrors the model that is used for the home fibre, where you pay a set amount and browse for the whole month. However, the B-Live is not based on internet speed like the fibre.

According to the telco, the new product is aimed at enabling its customers to browse without worrying about the bundles ending before the time lapses, making it beneficial for heavy internet users who make downloads on the internet.

For instance, in this model, you can browse for 2 hours for Ksh60. You can also browse for 6 hours after paying Ksh150.

"This is a promotion where we enable subscribers to feel liberated by allowing them to browse and enjoy worry free experience when accessing the offers," Safaricom stated.

How to Purchase B-Live Bundles 

The product is currently available to all users and can be accessed through the normal data purchasing option *544#, *555#, *444# or*200#.

Customers can also purchase the bundles through the mySafaricom app.

Available B-Live Bundles

• Ksh20 = B-Live for 1 Hour
• Ksh30 = B-Live for 1.5 Hours
• Ksh50 = B-Live for 3 Hours
• Ksh60 = B-Live for 2 Hours
• Ksh75 = B-Live for 4.5 Hours
• Ksh150 = B-Live for 6 Hours

Currently, not all customers can access all the options. Different customers have reported accessing different offers - an indication that Safaricom may offer customers options based on their internet use. 

Users who have already tried the packages have indicated that the bundles have a Fair Usage Policy. While the internet is unlimited, when there is excessive usage within a short timespan, users notice reduced speeds. Notably, the user cannot buy a new plan before the lapse of the time-specific bundle. 

For example, if you purchase the Ksh75 bob package that lasts 4.5 hours, you cannot buy another time bundle until the lapse of the 4.5 hours - even when the speeds are dwindling under the Fair Use Policy. 

How to Check B-Live Data Balance

Customers can check the balance of their purchased bundles via *544*44# or via the mySafaricom app.

Limitations of B-Live Data Bundles

One of the limitations of the new worry-free bundle is that customers will not be able not hotspot. Additionally, will not be able to sambaza the bundles or buy them for others.

In terms of expiry, there will be no extension of time.
