While it won't win any beauty pageants, it has quickly become the hardest-working member of my team.

However, owning this car comes with two specific ‘side effects’that every potential buyer should know.

In many parts of rural Kenya, Proboxes are the default choice for illegal public transport. Because of this, I get flagged down by the police almost every day. They assume I’m carrying passengers, even when I’m just moving my own tomatoes or headed to a consultancy gig. It’s a minor tax on my time that comes with the territory.

On the other hand, the interior is quite basic. It lacks the appeal of a modern SUV or a sleek sedan, but as a business owner, I’ve learned to value utility over aesthetics.

If you are looking for a status symbol, look elsewhere. But if you need a vehicle that can fund your lifestyle, transport your harvest, and survive the rigours of village fieldwork, the Toyota Probox is unrivalled. It’s not just a car; it’s a partner in the hustle.
