Turaco Partners With ASA International to Offer Affordable Credit Life Insurance Across Africa

Turaco Microinsurance Limited has partnered with ASA International, one of the world’s largest microfinance institutions, to launch the Enhanced Credit Life insurance product targeting entrepreneurs in Kenya.

The product was unveiled on Friday, July 4, in Nairobi, after a successful pilot in Uganda.

Through the partnership, the Enhanced Credit Life will be embedded directly into ASA International’s loan products, providing accessible and affordable protection for borrowers.

With premiums starting as low as Ksh39 (US$0.30 per month), the cover will offer continuous protection against life and health-related risks for the beneficiaries and their families.

Major benefits for the product include life cover and hospital cash benefits.

Nagudi Milly, an ASA group member from Mbale, Uganda, shared her positive experience from the cover, highlighting the timely payment of claims.

“I’ve been with ASA since 2018 and use my ASA loans to buy cattle and goats. When I made my first claim, Turaco paid me so fast. With that money, I reopened my shop. I’m really thankful to ASA and Turaco for this cover," she stated.

Turaco CEO Ted Pantone, while speaking on the partnership, emphasized the broader impact of the partnership, adding that the initiative supports key Sustainable Development Goals, including poverty reduction, improved healthcare access, and economic stability for underserved populations.

On his part, Rob Keijsers, Group CEO of ASA International, expressed that the partnership would be beneficial to many entrepreneurs, given that some low-income entrepreneurs had difficulties in accessing such health covers to cushion them.

“The Enhanced Credit Life product deepens financial inclusion by offering access to life and health insurance services that have traditionally been out of reach for many. It also replaces and strengthens our previous death-only cover, providing more comprehensive protection for our borrowers," he stated.

In the partnership, Turaco’s platform will power the entire value chain, from onboarding to claims, through seamless API integration with ASA’s loan systems.

Customers will be able to initiate claims via mobile channels, with minimal paperwork and quick turnaround times.
