
Over 400,000 teachers were officially transitioned to the Social Health Authority (SHA) from the Minet medical scheme following an agreement signed between the Teachers' Service Commission (TSC) and the government.
Under the Social Health Authority (SHA), the teachers will enjoy 11 health benefits, including dental, inpatient, and outpatient coverage.
"SHA has a wide network of over 8,000 contracted healthcare providers spread across all 47 Counties, which include Government, faith-based, and private facilities. The contracted healthcare facilities will allow teachers to access services from any location, ensuring portability of services," SHA stated.
"Beneficiaries shall be required to produce the National identification cards (ID) with biometric and/or One Time Password (OTP) verification."

The outpatient cover will entail consultation with a general practitioner and a specialist, basic laboratory, drugs & dispensation, health education, wellness, and counselling.
Teachers will also get covered for physiotherapy services and the following vaccines: KEPI vaccines, Rotavirus vaccine, Anti-rabies, and Anti-snake venom.
Meanwhile, under inpatient, the cover includes hospital stay with health care diagnosis, consultation, accommodation/bed charges, nursing care, diagnostic laboratory tests, radiology examinations, physician/surgeon, anesthetist, physiotherapist fees, operating theatre charges, specialist consultations or visits.
Teachers will also get covered for ambulance services, where principal members and their dependents will get evacuation services.

SHA will cover antenatal care, delivery through both normal delivery and cesarean section, and Postnatal care.
Other benefits include family planning services.
The cover includes all surgical procedures(minor, major, and specialized), including transplants.
This cover entails pre-test costs for the kidney donor identification up to a maximum of two people.
This covers specialists’ reviews, dialysis services, nursing services, intra-care and dispensed medications, routine laboratory tests, nutrition, and counselling
Under this cover, SHA will provide rehabilitation treatment for persons addicted to drugs.
The cover caters to diagnostic imaging services such as CT-Scan.
Covers devices such as hearing aids, prosthetics, and mobility aids like wheelchairs.
Includes treatment for cancer patients for radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Under SHA, teachers will benefit from consultations, orthodontics, root canal treatment, post-root canal crowns, fillings, X-rays, and extractions. While under the optical cover, they will be covered from consultation with specialists. eye testing, glasses for refractive errors, optical frames, and lenses.
Cover for treatment costs arising from a condition that warrants treatment that is not available in Kenya. The cover includes the treatment cost for the patient and the organ donor.
