Call for Applications for the National Young Innovators Entrepreneurship Programme

The State Department of Labour and Skills Development, in collaboration with Kenyatta University's Chandaria Business Innovation and Incubation Centre, has announced a call for applications for the National Young Innovators Entrepreneurship Training Program (Phase II), which will be delivered virtually.

The program is based on the STEP (Students Training on Entrepreneurial Program) concept, which is a research-based and hands-on training program. The STEP model consists of twelve modules of training, each with a practical component focused on developing real-world businesses.

The modules include opportunity identification, development plan, product description, customer analysis, competitor analysis, industry analysis, company description, business strategy, operations plans, finding starting capital, investment plan, starting capital plan, cash management, financial plan, bookkeeping, marketing plan, critical risks, and risk management, and business plan writing. In addition, ICT will be included in the program. 

In the year 2021/2022, 400 youths were trained under this program. 

The program will last for a period of 12 months with a possible extension.

Objective of the Programme

The program aims to provide young innovators with the entrepreneurial skills necessary to launch successful businesses based on their innovations.

Eligibility Requirements for the Programme

To be eligible for the programme;

  • You must be a Kenyan citizen
  • You should be aged between 18-35 years 
  • You should be proficient in computer skills
  • You should have developed an innovation or invention

Qualification Requirements 

The following documents (in soft copy format) must be submitted by the applicant to the Programme Director, Chandaria Business Innovation and Incubation Centre, Kenyatta University;

  • Brief outline (1 page) of the innovation or invention developed by the applicant.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Copy of your National Identity Card/Passport

The benefits of this program are;

  • You will receive high-level professional mentorship
  • You will be provided with adequate and excellent facilities to develop your ideas.
  • You will be provided with necessary support such as; business development services, seed capital, space, telephone services, high-speed internet, stationery, administrative support, professional guidance, and mentorship for a period of twelve (12) months (with possible extension).

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Successful candidates will be provided with data bundles to help them gain access to the program.
