What KJSEA Results Mean

Unlike KCSE and KCSE, where students received marks and grades, respectively, the grading of KJSEA is done differently.

  • Exceeding Expectations (EE) - this is for students who scored 75 to 100 percent.
  • Meeting Expectations (ME) - this is the range for students who score between 41 to 74 percent.
  • Approaching Expectations (AE) - this is for students who score between 21 to 40 percent.
  • Below Expectations (BE) - this is for candidates who score below 20 per cent.

The four grading points have been subdivided into two, i.e, there are EE1 and EE2, differentiating those learners who score the top marks in their band category.

The candidates who sat for the KJSEA exams this year are expected to be placed in various high schools across the country.

Students are expected to receive their placement letters before December 25, 2025, as the government will be using a digital system for the placement exercise.

The Ministry of Education set the tentative opening date for Grade 10 as Monday, January 12, 2026.

In Grade 10, which is the inaugural class for Senior Secondary Schools (SSS), students will pursue any of the three pathways offered under the Competency-Based Education (CBE). The available pathways include Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); Arts and Sport, and Social Sciences.

Students will primarily undertake 7 subjects, 4 of which will be core subjects that include: English, Kiswahili/KSL, Community Service Learning, and Physical Education. The remaining 3 subjects will be selected from the various pathways.
