I&M Bank Partners With Surecomp to Expand Digital Trade Finance Across 5 Countries

I&M Bank on Wednesday announced a partnership with Surecomp, a provider of digital trade and supply chain finance solutions, to strengthen and modernise its trade finance services.

According to the bank, the partnership is aimed at making it easier and more efficient for its customers to do business.

The trade finance platform will be introduced in Kenya ahead of a planned expansion to other markets where I&M Bank operates, including Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and Mauritius.

Carolyne Mulandi, I&M Bank’s Head of Trade and Financial Institutions, said the investment reinforces the bank’s focus on improving the trade experience for businesses while building stronger regional capabilities.

“For our customers, trade is ultimately about being able to move goods, make payments and do business efficiently. As their businesses grow and increasingly operate across markets, they need their bank to keep pace with them,” she said.

“This investment is about simplifying that experience, reducing turnaround times and giving our customers a stronger trade finance partner across the region.”

The platform is designed to strengthen the bank’s ability to support growing trade volumes across its markets while enhancing operational efficiency and risk and compliance processes.

This will be done through the deployment of Surecomp’s DOKA-NG™ and RIVO™ solutions to support the digitisation of its trade finance operations. The technology will enable the bank to streamline trade processing and provide a more consistent experience as the solution is rolled out across its regional network.

“Our partnership with I&M Bank reflects the rapidly growing focus among African banks on using SaaS technology to make trade finance more accessible, efficient and scalable,” said Tal Weiser, Surecomp’s Chief Revenue Officer.

The partnership comes after the bank announced a 22% jump in profit after tax for the first half of 2026 to Ksh10.2 billion, while profit before tax rose 15% to Ksh13.5 billion.

Kenya made the biggest contribution to profit before tax, accounting for 67%. Rwanda followed with a 20% contribution, then Uganda at 6%, Tanzania at 5% and Mauritius at 3%.

During the same period, the bank’s customer base grew from 851,000 in 2025 to 1.1 million in 2026, with 92% being digitally active customers, underscoring technology as a key pillar of its strategy.

In terms of growth, the bank's wealth management business, I&M Capital, which offers products such as the Wealth Fund and Fixed Income Fund and was launched about two years ago, experienced robust growth in assets under management. Assets under management grew from Ksh19 billion in 2024 to Ksh70 billion in 2025 and Ksh127 billion in 2026, representing an 81% year-on-year growth.
