When I was in the market for a car, my decision-making process was all about one thing: practicality. I needed a car that could handle my daily commute without draining my wallet.
It also had to be spacious enough for all my needs, yet compact enough to navigate Nairobi's traffic. The 2011 Toyota Ractis, a new shape model, checked all the boxes. At a price of Ksh 1,080,000, it felt like a smart, trendy choice that offered great value for money.
I've now been driving it for a while, and it has proven to be everything I hoped for and more. The car’s design was quite trendy when I bought it, and it still holds up today.
It’s a workhorse that seamlessly integrates into my daily life. It gets me to and from work every day, and I don't have to worry about a thing.
This is where the Toyota Ractis truly shines. Its 1.3L engine is an absolute champion when it comes to fuel efficiency. The car consistently gives me about 18 km per litre, which is a huge relief with the rising cost of fuel. This kind of fuel economy is a dream for anyone who, like me, prioritizes saving money on the daily commute.
Maintenance has been a breeze as well. My visits to the mechanic are limited to regular service intervals, and that's it. No recurring repairs, no unexpected breakdowns, just a simple and predictable maintenance schedule. The low cost of ownership is a huge benefit and a perfect fit for a smart financial plan.
Speaking of maintenance, another major plus for me is how easy it is to get spare parts. Like most Toyotas in Kenya, the parts for the Ractis are widely accessible. I’ve never had to go on a wild goose chase for a part, which is a big relief and saves both time and money.
While I'm incredibly happy with my Ractis, I'll be honest—it's not perfect. If I could change one thing, it would be the power. The car was built for efficiency, not performance, and it shows, especially on hilly terrains.
When I'm on a steep incline, I can feel the engine straining to keep up. It's not a deal-breaker, but it’s a noticeable trade-off for the fantastic fuel economy it provides.
The Toyota Ractis is a fantastic choice. It’s a practical and reliable vehicle that won't give you headaches or drain your savings.
It may not be the flashiest or most powerful car on the road, but it’s a dependable partner that gets the job done without any fuss.
