NTSA has announced that it will begin rolling out electronic logbooks for vehicles (e-Logbooks) starting June 10, 2026, as it phases out the current paper registration certificates.
According to a notice released on Thursday, May 7, NTSA stated that the e-Logbook will provide real-time vehicle ownership updates and ease access to motor vehicle records for owners, banks, insurers, and law enforcement agencies.
Under the new system, vehicle owners will no longer wait days or weeks for physical logbooks after registering or transferring ownership. Instead, the digital logbook will be generated instantly through the NTSA portal.
The Authority added that the digital records will use encryption and secure hashing technology, making them tamper-proof and significantly reducing cases of fake logbooks
“When a vehicle changes ownership, the e-Logbook updates instantly. This eliminates the risk of using an outdated paper logbook and reduces fraud during private vehicle sales,” read the statement in part.
“The e-Logbook uses digital encryption and secure hashing, making it nearly impossible to forge or alter. This directly protects owners from fake logbook scams that are common with paper versions.”
Equally, the e-Logbooks will also have QR codes which can be used for verification.
NTSA noted that this was vital as it would allow third parties such as buyers, banks, and insurance companies to instantly verify the authenticity of a vehicle’s ownership details.
This is aimed at protecting people when buying vehicles and also help lenders with verifications when issuing loans to individuals who want to use vehicles as collateral.
In addition, the system will integrate with insurance, inspection, and Public Service Vehicle (PSV) records, enabling automatic compliance checks and reminders for renewals of relevant certificates.
For vehicle owners, NTSA added that they will be able to access and download their logbooks anytime through their eCitizen accounts for free.
The e-Logbooks will apply when one is undertaking a registration for a new vehicle registration or when registering a used vehicle.
The e-Logbooks also apply when transferring a motor vehicle transfer of ownership, asset financing- in charge, asset financing- discharge, re-registration of a motor vehicle and de-registration of a motor vehicle .
The e-Logbooks will also be updated when one changes the particulars of a car, such as colour.
“To verify the authenticity of an e-logbook, interested parties may scan the QR code printed on the e-logbook. Verification and validity information will be generated instantly,” the authority noted.
To access the complete motor vehicle records, a copy of the records search can be requested from NTSA.
