NYS Announces 750 Permanent and Pensionable Jobs; How to Apply 

The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced 750 job vacancies targeting diploma and degree graduates.

In a notice dated March 3, NYS announced that it was recruiting 250 cadets who have graduated with various diplomas and degrees from recognised universities and colleges.

Among the permanent and pensionable jobs listed are 50 General Officer Cadets, 23 community health nurses, 15 accountants, 15 supply chain managers, 15 machine operators, 12 record management officers, 10 architects and 10 chaplains.

Other positions include hydrologists, physiotherapists, communication officers, structural engineers, electrical engineers and mechanical engineers.

The positions are only available to Kenyan citizens.

"Candidates must be medically fit, and successful candidates must undergo NYS Paramilitary training for nine (9) months at NYS Training College," read the advert in part.

"Candidates should have a certificate in computer application skills from a recognised institution and meet the requirements of Chapter six (6) of the Constitution."

Below are other requirements the cadets need to meet.

  1. Applicants must be between 18 and 28 years old.
  2. Cadets must possess a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of KCSE grade of C+ (plus) or a minimum of KCSE grade C- (Minus) for Diploma
  3. Have a KRA PIN Certificate 
  4. Have no criminal record

Additionally, NYS announced 500 job vacancies for former NYS recruits

The job vacancies include drivers (70), plant operators (80), masons (30), electricians (10), carpenters (15), plumbers (10), band (30), agriculture (10), secretaries (10), panel beaters, motor vehicle mechanics, welders and general duty officers.

The requirements for the private jobs include;

  1. A minimum of KCSE grade of D+(plus) 
  2. Must have undergone the initial NYS Paramilitary Training
  3. Be in possession of a National Trade Test, Craft or Diploma Certificate in the above-listed courses and
  4. Have no Criminal record
  5. Senior Service Man/Woman (I and II) certificate required for General Duty Cadre.

"Applicants who meet the above requirements are required to download and complete the Application for Employment Form-PSC.2 [Revised 2016) from the Public Service Commission website," read the advert in part.

"Duly completed application forms should be submitted through any one of the following methods: Scan the form and send to the email provided-director.generalnys@gmail.com or send the form in a sealed envelope clearly marked with the title of the position applied for to the - Commandant General, National Youth Service, P. O Box 30397-00100, GPO Nairobi."

Sealed hand-delivered applications can be dropped at the Registry - National Youth Service Headquarters, Ruaraka, Thika Road, Ground Floor.

The deadline for the application process is March 18, 2026.

Nationwide Recruitment for NYS Volunteers

NYS has also announced mass recruitment of volunteers countrywide. The exercise will be conducted between March 16, 2026 and March 21, 2026, starting at 8 am daily.

All applicants need to be Kenyan citizens and residents of the respective sub-county where the recruitment is being undertaken.

Recruits also have to be aged between 18 and 24 years.

NYS also noted that recruits have to be willing to undergo a medical examination during and after the recruitment exercise and be prepared to undergo Basic Paramilitary Training.

"Successful candidates will report to the NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil, or NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI), Naivasha, on dates and times specified in their respective calling letters," NYS stated.

Other qualifications include 

  1. Have attained a minimum mean grade of D (Plain) in the KCSE.
  2. Have an original National Identity Card and academic certificates.
  3. Have a valid Good Conduct Certificate from the police.
