A report by the Capital Markets Authority for Q1 2026 shows that more Kenyans are investing in special funds as they look for returns beyond MMFs and other investment vehicles. At the end of March 2026, special funds had Ksh206 billion in Assets Under Management (AUM).
Previously, we have covered the Mansa X Special Fund, Oak Special Fund and the Arvocap Special Fund. In this article, we review the Etica Special Multi-Asset Fund, which was operationalised in November 2025
Here is a breakdown of how it works, who qualifies and everything you need to know before investing.
The fund is a Collective Investment Scheme managed by Etica Capital Limited. The fund seeks to achieve long-term capital appreciation by investing in a diversified portfolio of securities across multiple asset classes.
Unlike traditional funds that may focus on a single asset category, the fund invests in a diversified portfolio that includes equities listed on the NSE and across Sub-Saharan Africa, government bonds in Kenya and the East African Community (EAC), commercial papers, offshore securities, foreign currency trading, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing, as well as cash and cash equivalents.
At the end of the 2026 Q1, its AUM was Ksh1.9 billion.

If no withdrawal request is submitted within that period, the investment is automatically rolled into another six-month lock-in cycle.

According to the fund's latest available data, the periodic net return for the first quarter of 2026 was 5.02%. Returns are distributed and compounded quarterly.
Because the fund actively invests across different asset classes and markets, returns may vary depending on prevailing market conditions and the performance of underlying investments.

“The fund invests in a wide range of asset classes including equities as well as fixed income markets. While these asset classes present investors with potential for capital gains, and higher long-term return potential, they also expose the investor to price swings due to market volatility during some economic cycles and thus suitable for investors seeking medium- to long-term returns and able to tolerate periodic fluctuations in portfolio value,” the fund noted in its fact sheet.
