KRA Asks Kenyans to Update Bank Account, Other Details on iTax Portal

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)on Tuesday, March 28, issued a notice, asking all taxpayers to update their registration details as part of an ongoing data clean up. 

The changes will be done on the iTax platform and will require individuals holding Personal Identification Numbers (KRA PIN) to update the current information including their bank accounts and contacts. 

Other details that will be updated include the physical address, directorships or partnerships held in companies, source(s) of income, employer’s PIN(for employed individuals). 

Some of the fields, such as a declaration of bank accounts, are optional, while others are mandatory - for example, a declaration on whether you receive rental and business income is mandatory.

The taxman indicated that the updated information will help improve service delivery. 

“Kenya Revenue Authority would like to notify all registered taxpayers of the on-going data clean- up exercise of taxpayers' Personal Identification Number (PIN) registration details. The exercise is aimed at ensuring the integrity of the taxpayers' register with a view to enhance service delivery to all taxpayers.

All registered taxpayers are urged to update/correct their registration details as appropriate, on Tax, including their name, phone number, physical address, email address, physical location of businesses, residency status, directorships or partnerships held e.t.c.,” KRA’s statement read in part. 

How to Amend KRA PIN Details

To update the details attached to your KRA pin, follow the steps highlighted below:

Visit the iTax portal on itax.kra.go.ke.

 You will be prompted to login using your KRA pin and iTax password

You will be directed to the next page which has four categories, select e-Amendment under the e-Registration subclass. 

Next, you will select to either make the amendments in an online form or fill the changes and upload the form.

For the online form option, the next option will highlight the areas where you need to update your personal details. 

There are 8 subcategories including:

  • Basic information
  • Bank accounts details
  • Tributary bonds (relationship with other taxpayers)
  • Tax agent authorised to submit tax information on your behalf
  • Alternative address/contacts
  • Partnership, corporate and trust information
  • Source of income
  • Intermediary Agent to submit returns on your behalf

Each of the fields with a red asterisk (*) are mandatory, and some fields will require you to upload additional documents. 

Once done, there will be a Submit option on the last page, click on it to effect the updates.

All amendments will be instantly effected except for physical and residential address details which will require approval from the authority.
