How Much Kenyans Will Need to Invest in Dangote IPO Through NSE

Hello and welcome to the Money News Roundup. Today, we cover plans to allow Kenyans to invest in the Dangote IPO through the NSE and a new Bill allowing mobile money providers to invest customer deposits.

Kenyans to Buy Dangote Refinery Shares at Ksh49 Each Through NSE

Kenyan investors could soon buy Dangote Petroleum Refinery shares for as little as Ksh490 through a proposed NSE vehicle awaiting regulatory approval.

As reported by the Business Daily, Investment bank Renaissance Capital plans to issue Global Depository Receipts (GDRs), with each receipt representing underlying Dangote shares listed on Nigeria’s NGX.

Stanbic Bank will act as custodian, while Kenyan investors will trade the GDRs through licensed local brokers and settle transactions in shillings through the CDSC.

The proposed offer is expected to run from October 5 to October 13, subject to approval, with the receipts scheduled to list on the NSE from December 8. Investors will be able to purchase a minimum of 10 Dangote shares for about Ksh490.

The IPO involves 4.1 billion shares, representing a 3% stake, priced at Ksh49.25 each. Dangote plans to use the Ksh202 billion proceeds to double the refinery’s capacity from 700,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day.

M-PESA, Airtel Money Allowed to Invest Deposits in Govt Securities in New Bill

M-Pesa and Airtel Money could invest customer deposits in government securities and interest-bearing bank accounts under the proposed National Payments Systems Bill 2026. The move could generate significant returns from the large sums held in trust accounts.

As reported by the Business Daily, M-Pesa processed Ksh41.7 trillion in transactions in the year to March 2026, highlighting the scale of funds moving through mobile wallets.

Former CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge has proposed that customers receive a share of investment returns after trust account expenses, instead of all proceeds going to charity.

Njoroge has called for agent sharing, allowing customers to deposit and withdraw cash from any authorised agent regardless of their provider.

Maiden 40,000-Tonne Fuel Shipment to Rwanda Arrives at Mombasa

40,000 metric tonnes of petrol and diesel have arrived at the Port of Mombasa, marking Rwanda’s first fuel shipment under a June 29 deal with Kenya. The cargo is expected to boost Rwanda-bound petroleum volumes through the Northern Corridor tenfold, from 60,000 to 600,000 cubic metres annually.

As reported by Citizen Digital, the fuel will move through the Kenya Pipeline Company network to Kisumu before being transported via Lake Victoria to Rwanda. Kenya says its pipeline and storage infrastructure can handle the additional volumes without affecting local supply.

The deal is expected to increase transit revenues for KPA and KPC while strengthening Mombasa’s position as a regional energy hub. Kenya is also considering supplying Rwanda with fuel from the planned Lamu refinery.
