This week, we feature Benjamin Mirobi, who shares what it’s like driving the 2008 Toyota Isis

Unlike many drivers who carefully select their next vehicle, my 2008 Toyota Isis came to me by default, as a cherished inheritance from my parents.
I've only owned it for about eight months, but its history with my family stretches back 15 years—this car practically raised us, and every kilometer holds the shared memories of our childhood. While its current market price sits somewhere under Ksh700k, its sentimental value is priceless.

The primary reason for driving the Isis is its deep connection to my family's past. Despite being a relatively large vehicle, it serves perfectly to ease my daily commute to and from work.
More than just a commuter, the Isis remains a capable long-distance cruiser.
Last month, we embarked on a trip to Meru, and the car performed flawlessly, boasting what I affectionately call "old man strength." It’s reliable for long trips and comfortable for daily city use, seamlessly blending nostalgia with necessity.

The Isis is powered by a 1990cc engine, offering dependable performance. In terms of efficiency, it averages around 10 to 11 km per liter during city driving, and improves slightly to 13 km per liter on the highway. This consumption is a predictable trade-off for the car's size and utility.
When it comes to maintenance, the ownership experience aligns with the legendary Toyota reputation.
Maintenance is simple, involving only routine repairs. The standard service interval is set at every 5,000 km, with an average service cost of Ksh10,000.
Sourcing spare parts is very easy, a huge benefit of driving a popular Toyota model. This lack of hassle makes the ownership experience stress-free and reliable.

Despite its age and the rapid changes in automotive design, when considering what aspects of the car I wish were different, the answer is immediate and absolute.
The car is perfect as it is. It’s not just a machine; it’s a living part of the family history, delivering reliability and comfort without demanding any sacrifices in return. The Toyota Isis is a steadfast, flawless companion.
