The government has officially launched the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, which is aimed at economically empowering youth across the country.
Nyota Fund, which is co-funded by the World Bank, will be offering Ksh50,000 to 100,000 youth across the country as support capital for businesses.
As envisioned, 70 youth in each of the country’s 1,450 wards will be picked for the programme.
Those being targeted with the programme are youth aged between 18 and 29 years (or 18 -35 years for youth with disabilities who are registered with the National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD).
Additionally, the programme is targeting those who have not gone beyond the Form 4 level of education.
Applicants should also be unemployed, underemployed, or those working in low-income jobs.
Interested applicants are advised to apply before the October 12 deadline.
Through the Nyota Project, 600,000 youth will be equipped with digital skills on how to access government procurement opportunities and catalytic funds to build sustainable businesses.
The program will also involve 90,000 youth who will be trained to gain job experience, with another 20,000 benefiting from recognition of prior learning.
To benefit one should be a Kenyan citizen and have a National Identity card.
Applicants are also required to have a SIM card registered in their name and their National ID.
