The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has intensified the implementation of its instant fine system, with motorists increasingly reporting being fined for speeding along various roads in Nairobi.
Among the roads that have been highlighted as having several speed cameras are Thika Road and Mombasa Road.
Based on reports shared by motorists on navigation platforms such as Waze and other online forums, the following are some of the areas where drivers have reported receiving instant speeding fines.
In most urban areas, the general speed limit is 50 km/h, while highways and dual carriageways typically allow speeds ranging from 80 km/h to 110 km/h depending on the road classification and signage. It is advisable for motorists to always be on the lookout for the signage.

Along Mombasa Road, motorists should observe the 80 km/h speed limit on key sections, including the stretch around Nyayo Stadium, the Sameer Business Park/General Motors area, and near Cabanas as you approach Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
On Thika Road, the speed limit varies by location. Motorists can drive up to 110 km/h near Safari Park, while sections around Jomoko, Allsops, the GSU Headquarters, Pangani, and the Muthaiga Interchange have a lower speed limit of 80 km/h. Around the Roysambu and TRM areas, the speed limit ranges between 80 km/h and 100 km/h depending on the specific section of the road.
On Mombasa Road, the limit is 80 km/h from Nyayo Stadium to Sameer Business Park near General Motors and from Cabanas towards JKIA and Mombasa Road.

Under the current enforcement framework:
NTSA maintains that speed limit signs are installed at all automated camera enforcement sites. However, many motorists continue to complain that missing, damaged, or unclear signage makes it difficult to identify speed limit changes in time, resulting in instant fines.
NTSA is currently undertaking a PPP project to implement the instant fine system. 1,000 speed enforcement cameras will be installed on highways across Kenya. Of these, 700 will be stationary speed cameras while 300 will be mobile speed enforcement cameras.
The cameras capture traffic offenders and transmit vehicle details to a command centre where violations are processed and fines issued.
In addition to fixed installations, police officers also deploy mobile speed cameras along various roads and streets.
